We're a week away from election day and I am feeling the tension. More than at any other time in the past I feel that a lot is riding on the results. A lot of dirt has come up over the past week, but it's more than that. At some point in the future, the ombudsman should look into these. For the moment, though, these are just sideshows. What's more important is the direction that this country will take over the coming years. That's what's really scary, because the outcome could derail all of that.
I am going to have to put my thoughts in better order to expound on this. At the moment, it's all a jumble.
Randy David today wrote a piece on the looming fascism about to swoop the country. There are signs all over now, the threats of violence and the silencing of dissent. I have always maintained that the symbolism -- the closed fist -- pointed to a fascist movement. Finally people are seeing the same thing.
I have some pieces I am thinking of writing up over the coming week. Just my small contribution to the discourse, where it is still possible. Funny thing, early on, I had planned on remaining apolitical and keeping quiet. But it's impossible. There is such a thing as a sin of omission. If I stay quiet, I condemn myself.
