BBL, Peace, and a Quiz on Logic

Below is a quiz I gave to my classes in Discrete Mathematics last semester.

Determine if the following argument is valid or invalid:

If congress approves the BBL, there will be peace in Mindanao.
Congress does not approve the BBL.
Therefore, there will be no peace in Mindanao.

1. From the major premise, write down the hypothesis p and the conclusion q.

p = ?
q = ?

2. Using p and q, express the argument in symbolic logic form.

3. Generate the truth table for the argument. Indicate the critical row(s) with an "*".

4. Is the argument valid or invalid?

I gave this quiz before the Mamasapano Incident.
