Our Mindanaoan dame of letters Mrs. Aida Rivera Ford had the launch of two of her new books, "Heroes in Love: Four Plays" and "Aida Rivera Ford: Collected Works." The launch was held at National Bookstore, Gaisano Mall. We, the Davao Writers Guild, were on hand to support our senior member; and I had the honor of introducing the author.
"Heroes in Love" is a collection of short plays around the love lives of Philippine national heroes. The book covers the stories of Manuel Quezon, Gregorio del Pilar, the fictional Crisostomo Ibarra, and, of course, Jose Rizal.
"Collected Works" brings back many of Mrs. Ford's classic stories like "The Chieftest Mourner" and "Love in the Cornhusks", along with new stories written more recently.
Mrs. Ford is as energetic and charming as always. She's an inspiration, and I can only hope to be as lively as she when I get to be her age. And as productive, too. Her output easily puts my paltry efforts to shame.
With the Davao Writers Guild.
Ric de Ungria and Jhoanna Cruz of UP Mindanao perform an excerpt from the play on the courtship of President Manuel Quezon and his wife Doña Aurora.
My SALEM members and Creative Writing students also attended the event and had their books signed. Even though it wasn't a class requirement. I love these guys.
