Avengers Assemble!

We got these toys from the local gasoline station as a special tie-in with the movie. They're actually cup-toppers, but their make is not too shabby and they even have special action features.  A real steal at P60 each.
Speaking of the Avengers movie, the wife and I caught the first day showing here in Davao.  We bought the tickets a week ahead, which was just as well as the lines were long, even with almost all theaters running the same show.
Avengers wasn't a perfect movie, but it was fun.  To enjoy it properly, you just have to switch off your brain and try not to think too hard.

Reflecting on the Avengers a couple of weeks after viewing, here are the downsides:

  • Plot is quite contrived, but then again, it's based on a superhero comic, so what do you expect?
  • Middle is quite weak because it's mostly talk-talk-talk.  (You can tell because the kids in the theater start fidgeting and whining.)
  • The invading aliens never really convey a sense of menace (yeah, even though they destroy half of New York City.)

And the upside: Hulk!  Easily the best part of the movie, especially with the Loki beatdown.
