What is it with vampire hairdos?

So of course Twilight -- "the hottest books since Harry Potter" -- is being turned into a movie series. Vampires as angsty romantic love objects? Haven't we been here before? Ho-hum.

Then I chanced upon the movie poster and had a big laugh. Seriously?! Is this James Dean making a comeback?

But what really got me was the hair. What is it with vampire hair? I mean, is it supposed to look cool? Tell me, please! Because I don't get it.

Methinks he needs a bit more sunlight.

When he's older, his hair will look like this. (That's the versatile Gary Oldman in the 1992's "Bram Stoker's Dracula.")

And when he's really senile, he'll look like this. (That's Leslie Nielsen in probably the best vampire movie of all time, "Dracula: Dead and Loving It.")

  3. If you've read the series, you would know that Edward (the vamp) is supposedly so beyond handsome - in fact, this is the underlying message of the four books. This then required a requisite look for the movie version that modern readers will identify with. More F-4ish, Asian if you ask me.

"...so beyond handsome...?" And that translates into this picture how?

  9. Hi, Nikka: I think it's called "coffin hair." It says: "I sleep around all day so I can party a-aaaall ni-iiiiight." Yuck!

  10. It is, in all likelihood, a vampiric statement -- something along the lines of "I'm a vampire, darn it, and I can have any hairstyle I want to compensate for all those authors who portray me as an angsty moral conundrum (with added sparkles)."

That, and apparently Edward is so beyond handsome that his hairstyle transcends all notion of human logic.

I just reread my copy last night. edward cullen makes me swoon. as much as cedric diggory in harry potter. then they got cedric diggory to play edward! lucky, lucky, me. his hair does look kinda messed up. but i think he still looks fierce! blame my 17 year old hormones. ;)btw. the james dean comeback thing sounds good. i've been secretly crushing on that dude for, like, AGES. this has got to be your bestest post yet. hahahahahaha... ;D

  12. @Sean: Hmmm, imagine Gary Oldman and Leslie Nielsen saying that.

@Paige: hehe, glad you like it. I didn't know about the Cedric Diggory connection.
