Oops, pardon my under renovation

Last Tuesday, I ruined my old Blogger template. Yesterday, I had a fit of narcissism. Those two in combination resulted in a totally new template. The result is what you see on your screen right now.

I am so vain.

There's still a number of things that I need to fix up, so pardon me if not everything works. Sincere apologies if the site looks broken in Internet Explorer. As you might already know, I don't use Windows and so I only have Firefox and other Linux-based browsers to test the site with.

Then again, you really should upgrade to a better, standards-compliant browser. So there.

The graphics were largely done in Inkscape with some touchups in The Gimp. I'm happy to say that I'm getting better at both these tools. Many of the operations already come instinctively and I can now do all sorts of tricks. I'm especially proud of the icons I created.

I'll fix up the rest tonight, after I take a peek at how this all looks on IE. Shudder.

Update: Well, whaddya know? I just checked the site out on Internet Explorer and it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I had to do a couple of tweaks with CSS, but that was all.

Update: Comments boxes taken care of. Also fixed the little home icon near the bottom of the full post.

Next target: the links page. But that'll keep for tomorrow.

  1. hey! how cute! I love the new look. Very unique and artistic.

btw, in answer to your question from another post, hubby is doing great - biz doing fine. My baby is almost 2.5 yrs now, is able to find half of the alphabets on the keyboard (thanks to Elmo's Keyboard-o-rama) and seems inclined to be a great dancer. ;-), oh, he sings too... most of the time I can make out what he's singing.

  2. Ha! ha! I was afraid someone would say it looks gay. But then again, no self-respecting gay person would put such a goofy picture on the side.

Hey! email me privately where I can see your family pics.

  3. Heh, it's actually a nice picture, not goofy at all. If someone tells you the site looks gay, take it as a compliment. :-)

The curly font on the right is just a tad too flamboyant, though. hehehe

  4. Thanks, Roy! I was thinking it looked like a younger Kim Jong-Il. But hey! he's got nukes, so that's cool.

The font on the side is "Action Is" and it's patterned after -- drum roll, please -- the Austin Powers. Yeah, baby!

  5. I zoomed in on the 'Village...' font and thought you were going hippie..

  6. Wow you seem to be adept at using CSS in blogger. For a quick template it sure is unique from all other bloggers. Great work!

  7. Nice layout. Blue. :) I kinda miss the old banner though...the one with the Chinese characters.

Uhm, can I ask a very non-techno savvy question? How do you make that "Read more" link in your post? You know, that thing that is similar to the livejournal cut thingamabob-whatever-not-sure-if-I'm-even-making-any-sense?

  8. Thanks so much for the compliment, Ferdz! Your blog really rocks!

  9. Hi, Jute! Thanks for the comment. I'll see if I can fit the old title design back in.

It seems I inadvertently left you out of my blog roll, so I'll be sure to correct that when I finish the revamp.

As to the "Read more..." thing-y, it's documented here. Basically, it involves a short simple tweak to your template's CSS and adding a special tag to your entries.

  10. Thanks, Dom. Ack...didn't realize it would be so much work. :) But thanks. Now, lemme just go figure out how to fix the mess I made....
